ARGUMENTS CONNECTED W/SAUL ANSWERED

We shall seek to study 1) Who presented the gospel to Saul? 2) What does “call on the name” mean? 3) When/How was Saul saved, on the road, before baptism or otherwise?

I.     DID JESUS PREACH THE GOSPEL TO SAUL?

        A.    Mr. Brown says, “We ... know ... the Gospel was preached to Saul by ... Jesus, Himself.”

        B.    After His earthly venture, Jesus never preached the gospel to anyone (2Cor 4:7).

        C.    To preach the gospel is to preach Jesus and what to do to be saved through Jesus (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:5, 12; Acts 8:35, 36-37). Since the Lord did not tell Saul what to do to be saved, He could not have preached the gospel to Saul.

II.    WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD”?

        A.    The “Church in Tug” says to simply say the name.

        B.    callingonthelord.org agrees, but adds that you must say the words aloud.

III.  SAUL RECEIVED SALVATION. ON THE DAMASCUS’ ROAD

        A.    One has erroneously claimed such: “... Saul immediately became a person who had been completely converted to Jesus Christ. This is the very essence of salvation. Saul received salvation on the road to Damascus.”

IV.   WHAT DOES “WHAT SHALL I DO” MEAN?

        A.    Dave Root’s first problem: “Salvation” is not in the phrase "What shall I do.”

        B.    Dave Root’s second problem: Jesus was simply commissioning Saul for apostleship.

        C.    His plan of salvation contradicts his own plan of salvation.

                1.     This teacher says that faith and repentance are essential.

                2.     He also teaches men are saved by faith and confession, quoting Romans 10:9-10.

                3.     Mr Faith Alone can see “confess with your ... and believe ... you will be saved.” But he can’t see “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved”

                4.     Mr Faith alone can see “people should repent ... and believe.” But he can’t see “Repent and be baptized ... unto the remission of sins”

        D.    Yet, Mr. Root denies baptism being essential unto salvation, “These things happened before Saul was baptized in water, which demonstrates that baptism is not a requirement for salvation.” Look closely at Romans 6:3-4, 16-18. Paul says he went from being a servant of sin to servant of righteousness. When? At the point of baptism, not faith alone.
